Dean Karnazes & The North Face Spread the Message

What do The North Face, Dean Karnazes and Blue Planet Run have in common? We are all racing to overcome seemingly impossible challenges.

The Blue Planet Run Foundation is proud to partner with The North Face to build awareness for the 1.1 billion people worldwide who must face the challenge of survival each and every day as they walk long distances to source water, hoping that it is safe enough to drink.

Dean Karnazes is currently attempting to traverse five of the most inhospitable places on five different continents, all in one year. The Desert Grand Slam spans the driest, hottest, coldest and windiest places on Earth.

Dean won 1st place in the Atacama crossing: 250km in 6 day stages...that's 155 miles!
• Miles of crusty, sharp and foot-swallowing salt flats
• Seemingly endless desert plateaus
• Impossibly high sand dunes to climb
• Altitudes of up to 11,000 feet above sea level
• Daytime temperatures rising above the 100 degree mark

Next, Dean endured six days crossing the Gobi Desert then just weeks later, came in fourth place in the Badwater Ultramarathon. For up-to-date information on his current status and to follow our partnership across the next three deserts, go to http://tnf.typepad.com/dean/

The North Face® is dedicated to supporting the communities where its athletes explore, to provide people with the basics for human health & prosperity. Ensuring communities have clean drinking water is at the core of community needs.

The North Face will provide a $5000 matching grant that will ultimately effect several projects. We encourage you to think about your water use and contribute to this important cause.
